The Lancashire and Cumbria RESPECT group is made up of 7 establishments: One Category B Prison, one Category B Local Prison, three Category C Prisons, one Category D Prison and one Young Offenders Institution. The area is the largest employment area of all the Prison Service areas, but has the second smallest number of minority ethnic staff of any area, making up only 0.8% of the workforce.
Achievements to date: The Lancashire and Cumbria RESPECT Group began life at HMP Wymott, and rolled out to HMP Garth, then across the entire area. In it’s infancy at HMP Wymott, the group received a great deal of encouragement and support from the then Deputy Governor, Bob McColm. The Group was offered the use of HMYOI Lancaster Farms as a permanent base by the Governor. The Group is now 20 months down the road and has representatives from all bar one establishment. What next? There are two short-term priorities for the Group.
