The RESPECT London Area National Executive Committee Representative is Senior Officer David Uduehi; the Area Chair is Temporary Principal Officer Jenifer Louis; and the Area Secretary is OSG Alma Jones. Area meetings are held monthly and venues for these meetings are rotated between establishments. The RESPECT London Area is made up of HMP Pentonville; HMP Holloway; HMP Brixton; HMP Latchmere House; HMP Wandsworth; HMP Wormwood Scrubs; HMP Belmarsh and HMYOI/RC Feltham.
Achievements to date: The RESPECT London Area is blessed with enthusiastic, dedicated, and hardworking members with pioneering ideas on how to progress the aims and objectives of this support network. In 2001, we successfully negotiated the earliest known agreement on how to ‘Eliminate Racism in the Workplace’ with the [then] Area Manager, Mr Adrian Smith by having early warning mechanisms or elements included in the Job Simulation and Assessment Competition [JSAC] in all Recruitments and Promotional exercises held in the London Area, to aid in the early detection of individuals who may harbour such [potential or real] inappropriate racist behaviour. This year, the RESPECT London Area has further demonstrated its commitment and focus in challenging racist behaviours by signing up with the Area POELT Training Centre at HMYOI/RC Feltham in delivering ‘RESPECT Awareness Course’. The first course will commence in April 2003 at Feltham. We are acutely aware of our social obligations to our members to provide avenues for them to have fun. To this regard, we have regular get-together sessions such as the latest Feb. 14th 2003 Valentine Night Party help at HMP Pentonville and the 2002 Christmas Party celebrations organised by HMP Belmarsh and hosted by Pentonville. Last year, the RESPECT London Area had a well-patronized cultural excursion/trip to France. In October 2002, some establishments like HMP Pentonville and HMP Belmarsh, RESPECT hosted some of the most successful and memorable ‘Black History Month’ celebrations for staff and inmates, in the history of the Prison Service. |
