In order to achieve its aims, RESPECT, like all other parts of HM Prison Service must set out in a clear, easy to understand manner how it intends to achieve those Aims.

One of the difficulties of some Business Plans is their complexity. It is not always possible to indicate, in a format that is easy to follow, how one part of an organisation's business ties in with another, particularly with large organisations.

Rather than replicate any of the usual Business Plan formats that we see each year, we decided to produce a Business Plan that would be easy to read, fit on one A3 sheet of paper, set out in an easy to follow table. We believe the RESPECT Business Plan format fulfils all of these requirements.

Something that has always bothered us about some Business Plans is the fact that they are treated like top-secret documents and in order to obtain a copy you have to first jump through various hoops. We believe that by being open it reduces the risk that RESPECT will be viewed with suspicion – something most organisations dealing with issues relating to race have to endure.
