GET INVOLVED

During our short life we have achieved a great deal. Through our nationwide membership scheme we have developed a massive peer group support network.

We are always keen to attract new members. So, if you're already a member, approach your colleagues to pledge their support in the fight against racism.

We are now eager to further develop our Area Committees, recruit RESPECT Contact Officers and RESPECT Support Officers.

Area Committees
Existing members are encouraged to form Local Committees to co-ordinate efforts in increasing cultural awareness and challenging those who promote racial disharmony.

Local Committees nominate an Area Committee Member to represent their views at Area Committee Meetings. The Core Time Agreement sets aside a minimum of 3 days per month for Area Committee members to carry out their RESPECT Duties.

Over the last 12 months RESPECT Officials have undergone 12 days of residential training, developed specifically to meet their needs. Officials get the opportunity to develop existing skills and learn new skills as a direct result of their involvement.

Area Committee Members contribute massively to our sustained growth. Without such volunteers RESPECT would quickly stagnate and fail to have any impact.

It's time to step-up. You joined for a reason.

Contact your Local or Area representative today.

RESPECT Contact Officers
The RESPECT Support-Line has been live for over two years with the number of calls received steadily increasing. The callers are Prison Service staff experiencing racial harassment or racial discrimination that need to talk confidentially. Contact Officers discuss the different options available to resolve the situation.

We require more volunteers to train as RESPECT Contact Officers. If you believe you have the qualities and time needed for this demanding role, or you require more information, please email the General Secretary of RESPECT, Jaswinder Singh Nagra using the form below.

RESPECT Support Officers
On occasions, incidents of racial harassment and discrimination cannot be suitably resolved, and members of staff take the Service to an Employment Tribunal. This can be a complicated and stressful procedure. We aim to provide Support Officers for physical and moral support as well as knowledge of the tribunal process.

If you believe you are able to perform in the demanding and specialised post of RESPECT Support Officer, or you require more information, please email the General Secretary of RESPECT, Jaswinder Singh Nagra
